March Madness Prediction

Published on Monday, March 14, 2011

lj-smithOver the years, March Madness betting enthusiasts, have come to acknowledge the tournament for its unpredictable nature. From shocking upsets, to deep runs by teams we would have never expected, the 2011 March Madness betting tournament is shaping up to be one of the best in recent memory. Here is our pick to win the entire tournament, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

The 2010-11 Big East Conference, is one of the deepest in recent memory, as close to 11 of the 16 teams to make up the conference, may qualify for this year’s March Madness tournament. Leading the charge are the Pitt Panthers and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. While Pitt and other Big East heavyweights, UConn, and Syracuse took much of the conference’s attention this season, it was Notre Dame that the experts were telling us to pay attention too.

With an overall record of 26 wins and five losses to close out the regular season, the Irish, appear to be putting their feet down on the gas pedals. Led by the tandem of Big East player of the year Ben Hansbrough and Tim Abromaitis, Notre Dame led the entire NCAA in three points shooting in 2010-11. What’s perhaps most astonishing about Notre Dame, is that they managed to go 15 and four during the regular season against the rest of the Big East.

In fact, earlier this week Notre Dame took on Big East defensive giants Cincinnati in the quarterfinals of the Big East tournament. However, rather than feeling intimidated by the Bearcats, the Irish destroyed Cincinnati by nearly 30 points in a game that was never close. Come March Madness time, Hansbrough and Abromaitis ability to hit three pointers, is going to pay off considerably.

As we noted earlier, Notre Dame managed to produce a 15 and four record against the Big East. Meaning to say, seeing as how the Fighting Irish are already battle tested, the pressure cooker known as the later rounds of the March Madness tournament won’t be as daunting for them. That is why Notre Dame will win the March Madness tournament for 2011.
